You might not think about fertilizing your lawn until it is too late – after all, you might look at your lawn and think that it looks just fine, when really, it is in need of fertilization! When you go out shopping for lawn fertilizer, you will also see some bags of fertilizer labeled as “starter” or “new lawn,” while others will be labeled as “slow-release” or “complete” fertilizer; if you have a lawn that is one to two years old, you should use a starter formula, and otherwise, you should buy a complete formula for your lawn.

You should buy or borrow a fertilizer spreader in order to give your fertilizer a good, even spread throughout the yard, and you should also plan to fertilize the lawn one more time during the growing season in order to keep it optimally healthy.

Finally, you should winterize your lawn in the fall – but if you miss one of these times, do not panic; as long as you fertilize an established lawn at least once per year, you should be able to keep it in great shape!
