Being Sure To Know What To Do In The Event Of A Fire In Your Walls

It can be a frightening and sobering experience to end up with a serious fire in your house, and while every fire is scary, one of the scariest of all can be a fire in your walls, as anyone who has ever had one can tell you that the damage such a fire can cause often comes as a surprise. While you will hopefully never encounter this sort of fire (or any sort of fire, for that matter!) yourself, it is also important that you be fully prepared – knowing exactly what you should do in the event of such a fire occurring.

When a fire occurs, the first thing you should do is make sure you get your children and (assuming they are easy to find and easy to manage) pets out of the house; having a “fire procedure” for your family will help, as this will keep the children from trying to grab all their possessions, or from “freezing up” when a real fire occurs.

Once you have made sure everyone is out of the house, place a call to the fire department right away; some people try to put the fire out themselves before they call the fire department – thinking they do not want to cause the fire department to come out if they can contain the fire on their own. The important thing to realize about wall fires, however, is that people often think the fire is under control, but that it is actually still climbing up the wall in places where they cannot see it.

Once you have called the fire department, you can put the fire out yourself (or, at least, can do your best to put the fire out yourself), using either a hose or a fire extinguisher.

Even though you yourself will probably never have to deal with any such fire, it is extremely important for you to know what to do in the event of such a fire occurring, as this can be the difference in avoiding serious injury, and in keeping your house from getting more damaged than it needs to be!
